Everything You Loved in the Thermo Scientific NanoDrop 1000,
Plus More
The New Thermo Scientific NanoDrop 2000 delivers the same high-quality performance you've come to expect from our full-spectrum UV-Vis instruments, and it provides many enhancements:
- Fast measurement time of less than five seconds
- New, innovative software that allows you to create custom methods and provides flexible options to design reports and export your data
- Improved capability for proteins with low wavelength absorbance, such as peptides at 205 nm
- Sample volumes as small as 0.5 µl, which is ideal for precious high concentration samples
- Higher concentration measurement capability up to 15,000 ng/µl (dsDNA), which eliminates the need to dilute highly concentrated samples
The sample retention system used by the NanoDrop ND-2000 is probably its best feature. Not only does it enable the analysis of extremely small sample volumes (1 microliter), it also eliminates the need for cuvettes and capillaries. This saves the cost of either disposable cuvettes or the time and effort spent in cleaning reusable ones. For busy laboratories, this feature alone can pay for the cost of the ND-2000!
Benefits
- 1 µl samples
- Use less of your valuable sample
- Quick and Easy Sample handling
- Clean up in seconds
- No cuvettes or capillaries
- No sample dilution required
- Spectrophotometry without the use of a cuvette!
Technology in Brief
Surface tension is used to hold a column of liquid sample in place while a measurement is made. This is done by pipeting the sample directly onto one measurement pedestal. A measurement column is then drawn between the ends of two optical fibers to establish the measurement path as shown below. The measurement is made, typically in less than 10 seconds, and the spectrum and its analysis is shown on the screen of the attached PC and archived on the PC.
Applications
- Microarray Cy-dye Measurement:
Determination of the dye label concentration of microarray samples.
- Nucleic Acid Concentration and Quality Measurement:
Determination of concentration and quality of nucleic acid samples in the range from 2-3700 ng/µl without dilution.
- Spectrophotometry:
performs full-spectrum UV/Vis spectrophotometry. Safety is improved when analyzing dangerous materials due to the 1 µl sample size.
