The current method for counting cells uses the hemacytometer or Neubauer chamber, a gridded glass plate that has to be cleaned after each use and is liable to break.
Moreover, counting is done by "hand": every technician has his own criteria for counting or discounting a cell, and live cell counts can be very tricky.

The Nexcelom Cellometer series automates cell counting, determining the number of cells in your sample in 30 seconds (In comparison, even a trained cell technician typically needs 10 minutes).
